In celebration of The Walt Disney Family Museum's anniversary, Emmy Award®-winning filmmaker David Stoelk takes audiences on a fascinating journey through the creation of the museum dedicated to the man behind the magic: Walt Disney.
Ten years before the museum opened its doors, Walt's daughter, Diane Disney Miller, embarked on the mission of sharing her father's personal story with the world. From the discovery of Walt's newspaper-wrapped Academy Awards® stored in Burbank to the museum’s ribbon cutting ceremony in San Francisco’s scenic Presidio, the history of the museum is explored through never-before-seen footage and hardhat interviews with the people who championed the museum’s creation.
The film narrates the museum’s making through exclusive interviews with Walt Disney’s family, archival footage of interviews with the architects, contractors, and exhibition planners, and rediscovered footage of Diane. In his pursuit of the history of the museum, Stoelk uncovers another story: that of a daughter's devotion to her father. Though the museum tells the story of Walt's life, work, and legacy, the creation of the institution is a triumph of Diane's dedication, vision, and heart. (Run time: 46 minutes)
